In May, a group of women from the Women’s relief Society from the LDS Church in Wichita came to the IRC where they met with IRC staff, toured our office and were able to learn more about the IRC and the work that is done to help refugees resettling in Wichita. After their meeting they presented the IRC with a stack of cheery and bright colored quilts and baby blankets for refugees resettling in Wichita.

The IRC in Garden City hosted a community forum, where refugees resettled in Garden City were given an opportunity to tell their stories and their community was given an opportunity to learn more about the services provided by the IRC.

As a way of tackling the ongoing displacement crisis and issues faced by these clients, the IRC is focusing on community engagement to help with the integration of resettled refugees into our local communities, through a new Co-Sponsorship Program. 

In celebration of World Refugee Day, the IRC in Wichita and Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) will partner together to celebrate refugees resettled in Wichita.

The International Rescue Committee filed an amicus brief in support of this litigation and the national injunction on June 2, with partners. This brief reinforces our commitment to the US refugee resettlement system, the communities where we work, and the refugees who seek to rebuild their lives here in safety and freedom.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly recently signed a proclamation honoring the work of Kansas refugee resettlement agencies and celebrating Kansas’ immigrant heritage in honor of World Refugee Day on June 20th.

Americans have the opportunity to help refugees in their own backyards. Every year, the International Rescue Committee and other nonprofit organizations contract with the US government to help up to 110,000 refugees a year resettle, find jobs and housing, and integrate into American life.
