When Vivien Jacob came to the United States as a refugee through the IRC in 1990, little did she know she would one day end up serving as the Director for the IRC's Turlock/Modesto office. The following interview by community engagement outreach intern Perry Fishel takes a look at Vivien's nearly 20-year legacy with the IRC.

The IRC in Wichita’s Immigration Department provides free and low-cost immigration services to both refugees and the Wichita community. Every month a free workshop at the IRC in Wichita is held to assist eligible permanent residents complete their applications for U.S. citizenship.

Private donations contribute greatly to the success of the IRC's work. Although we receive state and federal funding for initial resettlement and employment services, the assistance we provide to refugee families beyond their first few months in the U.S. would not be possible without community support.

The IRC in Wichita is currently holding weekly informational meetings and is inviting members of the community to come to the IRC to learn more about the case management, employment and adult education services to refugees resettling in Wichita as well as ways that individuals or organizations may get involved with the IRC.

Asha is the mother of three young girls and this year she celebrates her first Mother’s Day in the United States. Many refugee parents, like Asha, have overcome extraordinary circumstances to give their children something we all strive for: the opportunity to live a healthy life, free from harm.
