Idaho Gives, a two-week online giving campaign, is an opportunity to unite our community around causes in which we truly believe and help nonprofit organizations connect to the larger community. The campaign has now begun and will run through May 7, and this year, the IRC in Boise will be fundraising to support refugees who have been impacted by COVID-19.
Refugee families are being disproportionately affected by COVID-19’s impact in our community.
Many IRC clients work in industries being hit hardest by the pandemic, including hospitality and food service. Recently arrived refugees are particularly vulnerable to industries experiencing hiring freezes and lay-offs. Newcomers who have not yet had the chance to secure employment or only had employment for a short while do not qualify for unemployment benefits. Essential human services that have had to move to phone and online platforms can aggravate language barriers and become virtually inaccessible for those who lack digital literacy, computers or even a phone.
YOU can make a difference. Help ensure that refugees in our community have the resources they need.
With your support, the IRC in Boise can help impacted families with rent and housing stability, utilities including phone and internet access, interpreter services, education resources for youth, and other essential needs.
Please give now, follow us on Facebook and share the great stories, matching gifts, challenges and prizes that we will be rolling out during the campaign. With your help, we can ensure that our community recovers and remains strong during these difficult times.
