The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Wichita is working alongside communities and partners to support Afghans living in Kansas and ensuring a warm welcome for those families soon to arrive in the coming weeks and months.

The Girl Empower program aimed to equip adolescent girls with the skills and experiences necessary to make healthy, strategic life choices and to stay safe from sexual violence.

This month Haben, an Eritrean refugee who was resettled by the IRC to Missoula three years ago, tells us abut her experience. When she arrived she spoke only a handful of words in English, but now speaks well enough to be interviewed for this story without interpretation.

The IRC developed a manual to help equip adolescent girls with key knowledge and skills to help them to mitigate, prevent and respond to gender-based violence.

This report presents the results from the baseline assessment of the IRC's Girl Empower (GE) program in Nimba County, Liberia. GE is a program in rural communities which seeks to help 13 to 14 year-old girls make healthy life choices and decrease their risk of sexual abuse.
