The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City looks toward the future, expanding employment services for refugee and new American clients. Omar Alsalim, employment services supervisor, speaks to the additions to this program.

Together We Welcome is an ode to tradition and cultures from around the world that arrived with people who now call Utah “home.” Despite hardships and a long journey, refugees and other immigrants contribute to and enrich their new communities in the United States. On April 27th, nearly 175 community humanitarians attended Journey to the Wasatch, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City’s annual spring fundraising party celebrating the journey hundreds of our refugee neighbors undergo to make their home in Utah.

These important contributions provide the IRC with vital operating support -- ensuring rescue and relief to families around the world affected by crisis.

At a critical moment of rebuilding for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), the IRC and the Refugee Advocacy Lab are bringing together refugee and immigrant voices, state legislators, and technical experts to celebrate their efforts to create more welcoming communities for newcomers. This virtual summit will include a panel discussion and conversations between policymakers who are advancing legislation related to education, workforce development, integration support, and more. Attendees will also have direct access to correlating policy resources and the technical support they need to replicate such measures within their own states.

The IRC in Salt Lake City is facing an urgent need of refugee housing. We are launching The Welcome Home Project as an ask to the public to help us provide emergency assistance through funds, employment, and resources.
