When Molly and Jeff decided to sign their family up to volunteer with the IRC in Silver Spring’s Family Mentor Program, they had no idea that it would fundamentally change the way they see the world.

The IRC in Salt Lake City’s annual holiday gift drive offered the community an opportunity to fulfill holiday wish lists for newly arrived refugee families and individuals.

CHOMP’s Dinner in the Park was a remarkable display of generosity and community. The event featured produce grown by local refugee gardeners and raised more than $5,000 for the IRC's New Roots program.

The IRC in Silver Spring held their annual job fair on May 24 in downtown Silver Spring. The event was attended by 144 refugee job seekers and 24 employer partners. In the month since the job fair, there are 87 documented client interviews and 10 refugees who have started new positions, with more new jobs anticipated.

This year, the IRC in New York’s New Roots Community Gardens (NRCG) in Queens is celebrating its second year since its grand opening during the pandemic in 2021. The garden has come a long way, providing a safe space for members to make new friends, harvest veggies/herbs, and connect with the land. 

This September, the New Roots Community Farm’s (NRCF) community members came together to rebuild the farm. This project consisted of transplanting new plants, weeding, and installing sturdier plant beds. The New York Restoration Project also joined the NRCF in these efforts to execute the rebuild. The IRC in NY sat with Sheryll Durrant, the Food and Agriculture Coordinator at IRC in NY, to learn about the impact of this rebuild and the vision of the NRCF as a whole.

From their homelands to years in refugee camps, many IRC clients have gained unique knowledge in producing high-yield harvests from small plots of land.

The IRC in Atlanta's volunteers are essential members of our community, as their work provides invaluable support to new Georgians seeking to rebuild their lives after surviving conflict and disaster.
