Um Abdo and her family have become internally displaced by the war in Syria—2021 marks a decade of the conflict. Violence, displacement and humanitarian needs continue to grow, putting Syria third in the IRC’s Emergency Watchlist of humanitarian crises for the coming year. Despite this, Um Abdo has been able to earn an income to support her family by sewing masks at home that the IRC delivers to the community for free.

Dr. Taher has come under attack three times while treating patients in Syria.

Dr. Bushra Al-Aghbari, an IRC reproductive health officer and a fearless leader defying the odds in war-torn Yemen. "Being a woman is not just to be strong and stand up for myself, but to stand up for everybody else who needs me.”  Read more about Bushra.

At 10 years old, Heba has known nothing but war in Syria. Three years ago, pain in her leg started making it difficult for her to walk, but attacks on hospitals prevented her from getting the medical attention she needed—until she received care from the IRC and our partners.
