On Saturday, June 19 the IRC in Tallahassee will celebrate World Refugee Day. The IRC will host a live virtual panel discussion with community partners, refugee families and the Tallahassee community at-large. In addition, the IRC will host an in-person event tentatively planned at Tom Brown Park. The events will highlight the contributions of the refugee community in Tallahassee, and elevated the voices of refugee families, community leaders and volunteers who ensure Big Bend communities continue to be welcoming places for all.

The IRC in LA booth included staff members from Resettlement, Early Employment, Citizenship and Immigration departments. Refugees, asylees and immigrants asked staff and volunteers about the IRC’s mission, its office services and citizenship and financial literacy workshops. The IRC in LA is a founding member of the RFLA and helped to organize the World Refugee Day event.

In celebration of World Refugee Day, the IRC in Wichita and Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) will partner together to celebrate refugees resettled in Wichita.

The IRC and the LA Public Library bring together your World Refugee Day reading list – Major works by refugee authors that have made an indelible impact to our society, or have brought to life the refugee experience to the United States and to the World.

On June 20, our community gathered at Play Faire Park for a memorable World Refugee Day celebration. The event featured an interactive mural, a mini golf fundraiser, and activities for all ages, showcasing the resilience and creativity of refugees. The mural, symbolizing hope and solidarity, will be displayed at the ArtWalk on July 11, 2024, at the Center for Contemporary Arts. The mini golf fundraiser highlighted refugee experiences while raising vital funds to support our programs. Thank you, Abilene, for your incredible support and making this day special! Together, we create a welcoming community for all.

This year, the IRC in Silver Spring was proud to be a partner of the Sunset Run for Refugees. This special event took place on World Refugee Day, Thursday, June 20 and brought together runners, walkers, and the greater community of the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas to celebrate refugees. This free 5k run or 2 mile walk brought out over a thousand people despite the rain.
