Chadia and Nour interviewed one another about their memories of Syria, adjusting to life in the UK, and the hopes and dreams they’ve carried throughout their journey.

Kurdish-Syrian refugees, Maasom and Hiba were living in a refugee camp in Iraq when their daughter Nasrin was born. She seemed like a normal, healthy baby … until her skin turned blue. They brought Nasrin to England, where she underwent surgery for a life-threatening heart condition. “When Nasrin got treated, it was a wonderful feeling,” says Maasom. “We can’t believe that she has recovered.”

Anxhela is a refugee from Albania and, as a junior doctor with the UK's National Health Service, is one of the thousands of refugee essential workers helping respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Razia Sultana is an independent activist, lawyer and feminist bringing change to the world's biggest refugee camp. In Bangladesh, close to one million Rohingya people have fled persecution in Myanmar. Living in an overcrowded camp, women continue to face violence—Razia is fighting to change that.
