The purpose of this guidance note is to review mechanisms for social accountability in health programs, provide guidance on deciding whether it is feasible to implement such activities, and outline the process of designing, implementing, and monitoring them.

When Miriam Barnes first came to the IRC, she was timid and shy, unsure of herself and nervous about communicating. Through strong encouragement from IRC staff and active participation in program activities, Miriam now walks into the IRC office with a new sense of confidence and pride, announcing her new career successes with a smile on her face.

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season started on June 1, 2020 and will conclude on November 30, 2020. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this year’s hurricane season is expected to be active and NOAA predicts a 60% chance of an above-normal season. This year’s active hurricane season has the potential to generate between three to six major hurricanes.

The IRC partnered with Auburn School District to provide a week of mid-winter break activities for newcomer elementary school students. With some help from our friends at Seattle Theatre Group, there was plenty of fun to be had!

The IRC in NJ is taking the time to extend its appreciation to its partners, many of whom are active agents of change in their community and beyond. 

In October, 2017, the IRC Kansas initiated it's outreach and education activities aimed at building support of continued refugee resettlement to educate, strengthen community support and enlist support from elected officials at all levels.

New Roots is a multi-faceted agriculture and food initiative that works in partnership with refugees and other New Americans to support their health, community connections, and household economics through nutrition education, gardening, land-based micro-business development, and other wellness and educational activities.

The International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) global humanitarian aid and refugee resettlement programs are actively responding to record-high numbers of displaced people by increasing their presence and implementing more efficient ways of working.
