The report documents the experience of adapting and implementing this play-based home visiting intervention in a crisis setting and shares stories of community workers and caregivers participating in the program in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.  We are now scaling this intervention through our Ahlan Simsim program to reach even more children and caregivers.

A groundbreaking project, Ahlan Simsim by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Sesame Workshop, has been recognized by the 2023 WISE Awards. Ahlan Simsim has reached over 1.7 million children and their families directly with playful and educational learning opportunities in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, and over 25 million children through the award-winning locally produced Arabic-language version of Sesame Street airing across the Middle East and North Africa.

Kezia Ahimina has never been to Burundi, the country her parents fled before she was born. But this fall, she may get a “dream” opportunity to finally visit: as a member of the Burundi National Soccer Team. 

Under the umbrella of International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City’s economic well-being services, the Financial Capabilities program serves refugees and new Americans through one-on-one financial coaching, classes and workshops, and access to resources to become financially independent. 

The IRC in NJ was so excited for the Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA) program to return in-person. This year's RYSA summer program ran for three weeks, with nearly 100 registered newcomers entering Kindergarten through 12th grade.  

The Youth Food Justice program with the International Rescue Committee in Dallas provided eight teens the chance to explore creativity and job readiness skills through food and agriculture.

IRC San Diego offers opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and recently graduated students every summer. This 4-month cohort involves working alongside IRC professionals in San Diego. Participants will gain valuable learning opportunities, including hands-on experience in case management, insights into local non-profit structures, familiarity with cross-cultural communications, and an understanding of the operational aspects of humanitarian work.
