Nazir was the Managing intern for the IRC in NY Education & Learning department. In this role, Nazir supported the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) program, including helping children from over 20 countries receive academic and social-emotional learning during the summer of 2022. 

The Salamati Rohi (روح سالمتی) Program promotes holistic wellness through mental health and psychosocial support to Afghans who have been forcibly displaced from Afghanistan and are currently experiencing the challenges of resettlement.

Every day starts the same for Ahmad*. He wakes up around 6AM to see what trucking routes need a hauler. Looks like nothing for today but tomorrow, there’s a load in Baltimore that needs a driver to take it down to Florida. Ahmad claims the load and starts to prepare for the 28-hour round-trip job.

Refugees and asylees often face difficulties in resuming their careers once resettled in the U.S. The IRC in NY is working with an extraordinary Special Immigrant Visa holder, Tamana, to rebuild her career in education.

When Mohammad and his family fled to the United States, they thought their struggles were in the past. Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, Mohammad fears he won’t be able to provide the basic necessities for his family. To support Mohammad and other families affected by COVID-19, the IRC in Silver Spring created Wish Lists on Amazon where individuals can donate items that families requested.

When he visited Lesbos, actor Mandy Patinkin helped to rescue a girl in a pink coat. The IRC returned to Lesbos to follow her story.
