Location: Schools in Prince George’s County (exact locations provided to confirmed volunteers)
Skills & Qualifications: Experience working with children, preferably in a multicultural setting (such as teaching, tutoring, etc.) is preferred.
Time Commitment: Two hours per week for sixteen weeks (February 4 – May 28). Volunteers may support either our high school tutoring program (Tuesdays 2:00-4:00PM) or middle school (Wednesdays (3:00-5:00PM). No programming during the week of 4/13 (spring break). Volunteers are expected to commit to the full program duration at either middle or high school (not both).
Responsibilities:
- Co-facilitate lessons focused on English language development and socio-emotional learning, in partnership with IRC staff
- Transport students from the school to their home each week
- Volunteers and staff either walk with or drive students from the school to a nearby apartment complex where many live (approximately 5-10 minutes)
How to Apply: Volunteers must attend an IRC Volunteer Orientation. Then, volunteers must complete an IRC and PGCPS background check.
