Youth Futures Summer Camp Volunteer

The IRC in Atlanta’s Youth Futures Summer Camp is designed for refugee, immigrant, and underserved students, grades 6 through 12, and will take place at the Clarkston High School from June 11to June 13, and from June 17 to July 25 at the Northlake Church of Christ, 1625 Cooledge Rd, Tucker, GA 30084. The program provides academic support as well as team building games and sports, college and career exploration, enrichment and community service activities, field trips, and more. Program volunteers are needed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm, mainly to assist staff with learning activities, group recreation and providing mentorship to students.
 

Responsibilities

  • Assist, if desired, with occasional field trips
  • Meet with program staff as needed
  • Assist with program delivery
  • Participate in social-emotional learning activities, experiential learning activities and group recreation activities
  • Assist with workshops, including college prep, essay writing, or life skills
     

Requirements

  • Must be patient, encouraging and comfortable working with youth from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have limited English proficiency.
  • Experience volunteering with summer camps or youth programs is helpful
  • Willingness to work with youth and meet them at their level
  • Must have in person availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays between the hours of 10:00am – 4:00pm
  • Background check required
  • Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Must track and log hours volunteered monthly via our online volunteer dashboard
     

Minimum Commitment

  • At least once a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, 10:00am – 4:00pm) from June 11 until July 25
