The IRC in Atlanta’s Afterschool Program is designed for refugee and immigrant students, grades 9 through 12, at Clarkston High School. The program provides daily homework help and academic assistance as well as college preparation support, enrichment and community service activities, opportunities to take field trips and participate in workshops, and more. Program volunteers are needed Monday - Friday from 3:15 pm - 5:45 pm mostly to assist students with homework.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with a variety of assigned homework
- Assist, if desired, with occasional field trips
- Meet with program staff as needed
Requirements:
- Must be patient, encouraging and comfortable working with youth from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have limited English proficiency
- Particularly in need of tutors familiar with high school math (especially trigonometry and calculus) and/or science (chemistry, biology, physics) content
- Must have in person availability on Monday - Friday between the hours of 3:15 pm - 5:45 pm
- Background check required
- Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination
- Must track and log hours volunteered monthly via our online volunteer dashboard
Minimum Commitment:
Once a week (Monday - Friday, 3:15 pm - 5:45 pm) for at least 3 months.
