The IRC San Diego is seeking volunteers to support the Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) program. As a VESL Volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in empowering students and fostering their language skills
Scope of work
As a volunteer in for the VESL program, you will be instrumental in supporting adult learners as they develop essential skills for employment and integration into the community. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the educational and vocational outcomes of our clients.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support for VESL Team
- Help coaching students on Driving Simulator
- Tutor students in VESL Conversation classes
- Provide transportation for VESL clients when requested by VESL Instructors
Requirements
- High school diploma
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- Proficient in English speaking, reading and writing
- Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance
- Be able to commit to 10 hours a week minimum
- Basic computer skills: Word, Zoom, Microsoft Outlook & Teams
- Preferred, but not required:
- Languages: Dari, Pashto or Haitian Creole
- Familiar with supporting classroom activities/materials creation for adult education
Working Environment
- Professional office environment.
- In-person
- Position hours are between Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm.
