Note this is an unpaid position.
Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 50+ countries worldwide. The IRC also provides support to thousands of refugees resettling in 29 U.S. cities each year through initial housing assistance; case management and referral services; job readiness and placement; community and cultural orientation; health and wellness programs; immigration services; and youth programs.
Scope of Work: The role of the Development Team at IRC Seattle is to amplify the work that our office does. While a powerful team, we would like to reinforce our work through volunteers. The Social (Media) Influencer will be a representative of IRC Seattle in their own networks, doing things like posting flyers at local coffee shops, re-posting IRC news on social media, or helping to get the word out about fundraising campaigns or other events. This does not have to be done on social media (hence the parenthetical reference--basically it was meant to catch your attention), but could be done with announcements (formal and informal) with social groups/clubs, faith communities, children's schools' parent-teacher organization meetings, etc. Share why YOU are passionate about welcoming the newcomer to the Puget Sound! This you will do with direct guidance from the Development Team.
Specific Duties:
- Post flyers around town for specific IRC Seattle fundraisers and/or events.
- Amplify IRC Seattle Facebook and other social media posts on personal accounts, explaining your connection to our cause.
- Offer suggestions to Development Team on reaching different constituencies that you think we have not sufficiently developed.
Location: Remote. This work can be done online or within your geographical community.
Time Commitment: Varies, but one hour commitment per week would ensure our reach is growing!
Skills:
- Comfort representing the International Rescue Committee in Seattle and sharing why you are passionate about our work.
- Access to different social platforms, groups, gathering areas, and other locations where you can champion our work.
- Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies
How to apply: This offers expedited onboarding! Please reach out directly to [email protected] to get acquainted with us. You can also attend one of our upcoming Virtual Volunteer Orientations. Afterward a member of the Development Staff will reach out to get to know you before sharing the other onboarding steps.
