Skills & Qualifications: The youth mentor must display an interest in supporting young people in their education and career goals and helping to build positive social networks. Experience working in a multicultural setting or with English language learners is preferred, but not required.

Time Commitment: Mentors commit to complete a training and background check prior to the start of the program. Mentors commit to attend each weekly session for ten weeks on either Tuesday or Wednesday from 4:15PM-6:15PM. The session includes a short group activity and individual break-out rooms where mentors meet with mentees. 

  • We are currently recruiting for the spring cohort! The spring 2025 cohort runs from March to May.  The spring cohort will run March 4th through May 7th with a mandatory training on February 18th. After attending the training, interested volunteers will be notified of their completion of the background check and mentee match or if they were waitlisted for the next cohort by February 28th

Location: Hybrid. The program consists of weekly virtual sessions on Zoom, facilitated by IRC staff. There will be 1-3 in-person field trips per cohort such as service-learning projects, museum visits, and college tours.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete and submit all required forms and trainings by the assigned deadlines.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly virtual sessions and pre- and post-session mentor huddles. 
  • Engage with mentee in breakout rooms to facilitate activities and provide individualized support.
  • Help mentee identify areas of interest and set personal and academic goals.
  • Encourage and support mentees in their academic, personal, and professional development.
  • Communicate any absences to the IRC point of contact at least 24 hours in advance of a session.
