Location: Remote or Hybrid in Northern California
Duration: Internships require a commitment of ~4 months, ~10-15 hours/week, or minimum of 240 hours total. Volunteers require 3-6 hours/week, 3-4 months minimum commitment.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Development Intern/Volunteer will support the Development Director in Northern California with a primary focus on prospecting for new donors and effectively utilizing Salesforce to manage donor information. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in non-profit development, donor research, and CRM management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General responsibilities could include, but are not limited to the following:
Prospecting and Donor Research:
- Conduct research to identify potential individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
- Analyze donor prospects to determine their capacity and inclination to give.
- Develop detailed donor profiles to support cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Utilize various tools and databases to gather and analyze prospect information.
Salesforce Management:
- Maintain and update donor records in Salesforce, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Generate and analyze reports from Salesforce to support fundraising strategies and track progress.
- Assist in the implementation of Salesforce best practices to optimize donor management and engagement.
- Provide support in training team members on Salesforce functionalities and best practices.
Fundraising and Donor Engagement:
- Assist in planning and executing fundraising campaigns and events, with a focus on leveraging Salesforce data.
- Support the development team in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors and sponsors.
- Prepare donor acknowledgment letters and other communications using Salesforce templates

Grant Support:
- Assist in the identification of potential private grant opportunities.
- Support the preparation and submission of grant proposals and reports.
- Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Interest in pursuing a career in non-profit fundraising, such as current and recently graduated college students and individuals pursuing similar experience through non-formal educational opportunities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with donor research and prospecting tools is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Fully remote with opportunities for hybrid/in-person engagement if located in Northern California.
