TITLE: Monitoring & Evaluation Internship

DURATION: 5-6 months, 10-15 hours per week
BACKGROUND:
The International Rescue Committee is the leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Since opening its offices in Des Moines and Iowa City, the IRC in Iowa has served over 800 clients seeking services to survive, recover, and gain control over their futures.
SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:
With oversight from the Deputy Director of Programs, the Monitoring and Evaluation Intern will be critical to improving the capacity of service providers to collect meaningful data, manage it well, analyze it effectively, and use the resulting analyses to improve programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with program team to ensure routine data collection and review.
- Develop an M&E data review schedule, inclusive of when and by whom data is reviewed.
- Test M&E data review schedule and collaborate with program leads to ensure data is collected and entered into relevant databases in a timely manner.
- Research and develop client satisfaction and client feedback mechanisms.
- Test client satisfaction and feedback collection instrument(s).
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- The intern will gain professional experience in collecting and analyzing program outcome and output data.
- The intern will deepen understanding of M&E topics and best practices related to planning and implementing data-driven, evidence-based programs.
- Gain exposure to interacting with diverse communities, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Deepen understanding of the unique barriers, challenges, and assets of the refugee and immigrant communities.
- Gain industry knowledge of the U.S. refugee resettlement program and its core services.
REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Pursuing a degree in: Social Work, Public Health, Kinesiology and Health, Nutrition, Medicine, Pre-PA, Pre-Dental, Sociology, Anthropology, Global Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, Education, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, International Relations, HR, or other relevant field.
- Experience and moderate efficiency with Microsoft products.
- Coursework in program design, management, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) or research methods.
- Experience and moderate efficiency with Microsoft products.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately under multiple demands and frequent interruptions.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
This position is largely unpaid with a small stipend given at the end of each month in accordance with hours worked. May also be used as credit for classes or practicums through appropriate registration.
