SCOPE OF WORK:

The Logistics Community Engagement Intern will work in coordination with the Community Engagement team to support the IRC’s programs in the areas of procurement and distribution of in-kind donated resources to resettled refugee and immigrant populations. This includes research into the procurement of in-kind donations from the surrounding community, assistance in assembling and distributing client requests for donated resources, and providing general maintenance of IRC storage facilities. The IRC relies on in-kind donations from its community of supporters to provide critical support to beneficiaries. This position will be integral for providing critical support to the IRC in Sacramento.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: General responsibilities could include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Procure new in-kind donations from the surrounding community, mainly through social media resources, including Offer Up, Facebook Marketplace, Buy Nothing Facebook Groups, Craigslist, and the r/SacramentoBuyNothing thread on Reddit.  
  • Searching donation opportunities from garage sales, estate sales, faith-based organizations, corporate offices, friends and family.
  • Hosting donation or collection drives in person or virtually. 
  • Assemble donation kits, client donation requests from inventory in various warehouses and community partnerships to fulfill client needs. 
  • Distribute in-kind donations either via scheduled pickups from the office storage or via scheduled deliveries 
  • Maintain IRC storage facilities, including the warehouse, storage unit and office storage closet, by dusting products, organizing shelves, and disposing of expired & damaged inventory daily. 
  • Support the hosting food drives and Winter Welcome campaign. 
  • Support Community Engagement team, as needed. 

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Age 18 or older. 
  • Ability to lift 35-50 lbs. safely. 
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. 
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work product. 
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes. 
  • Proof of valid driver’s license, insurance and clean driving record is required. 
  • Availability: Ideal schedule is in-person, Tues-Wed-Thurs between the hours of 9am-5pm, with a 30-minute break for lunch for full days. If remote opportunities are available, there would be potential to volunteer remotely on Monday thru Friday and/or weekends.
