Internships are a great way to gain applied experience in humanitarian work. Every intern is paired with an IRC staff member and helps fulfill our mission to welcome and support humanitarian immigrant clients in Boise.
About the positions
Internships are in-person and based out of the IRC office in Boise. Internship positions include:
- BSW case management
- MSW case management
- Adult education: cultural orientation, job readiness, employment & financial coaching, and more.
- Youth services: school enrollment, seasonal activities
Schedule and time commitment
Internships generally require a commitment of at least 15 hours per week for 12 weeks. Internship hours are scheduled within IRC office hours, Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00. Internships are unpaid. University credit may be arranged.
Internships occur in three cycles throughout the year:
- Fall (August-December, may extend longer) - applications open in February, interviews begin March 1
- Winter (January-May) - applications accepted February-September, interviews begin October 1
- Summer (June-August) - applications open in February, interviews begin April 1
Intern applicants should apply for open positions during the recruitment period prior to the desired cycle. Intern position descriptions are posted to the IRC Careers page and shared on Handshake. Positions vary but often pair well with the following majors: BSW, MSW, International Studies, Bilingual Ed, Education, among others. IRC internships are unpaid.
