The immigration services assistant will work directly with the immigration caseworker and immigration services coordinator to assist with the delivery of services. IRC’s immigration team assists refugees and the wider Wichita community with becoming a U.S. Citizen, a legal permanent resident (applications for green card), family-based immigration, adjustment of status, consultations, and more. The volunteer will be trained and guided by the Immigration services staff to assist immigrants with completing appropriate paperwork or help with translation. We are always looking for people who have second language skills, but these are not required. 

Responsibilties

  • Updating immigration case notes into a database
  • Opportunities to "follow" on immigration services outreach efforts and other immigration-related responsibilites
  • Update clients on application status
  • Inputting immigration Affidavits of Relationships (AORs) into a database
  • Help immigration staff with copying and filing documents for clients

Requirements

  • Interested in immigration, law and justice
  • Detail-oriented
  • Computer knowledge
  • Immigration knowledge preferred, but not required
  • Bilingual skills encouraged to apply

Time Commitment

  • IRC asks for a minimum commitment of 4-6 months of volunteering, with at least 8-12 hours per month. If interested, please submit a volunteer application.
  • Volunteer opportunities are typically during business hours-M-F 9:00-5:00 or the third Saturday of the month from 10-2pm.
