SCOPE OF WORK: Assist IRC's Housing Team by shopping for and setting up apartments to ensure they are ready for arriving refugee families. Volunteers play a hands-on role in creating welcoming homes and supporting the resettlement process
COMMITMENT: Tuesday and/or Thursday between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM (move-ins happen on short notice - typically 2-3 days)
LOCATION: IRC Dallas office, and client temporary/permanent housing (typically Dallas, Richardson, or Fort Worth)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compile new home supplied from donated items
- Use a company card to shop for items needed that are not in donation storage
- Meet the client at temporary housing and pack belongings into your car (belongings should already be boxed by clients
- Transport client from temporary housing to permanent housing
- Go with the client to leasing office to pick up key and copy of lease
- Unload belongings at permanent housing
- Assist with housing orientation and safety training with the help of an interpreter
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able and willing to lift 40(+) lbs. (volunteers will *not* be moving furniture)
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, willingness to drive
- Flexibility - move-ins happen on short notice (2-3 days) so short-term availability is a must
- Attention to detail
- Must adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries
