SCOPE OF ROLE: English Language Tutor Volunteers (ELT) work with the Resource Development Department to consistently aid a client in building their English language skills. Volunteers may help with learning the alphabet, basic conversation, reading, writing, or may help more advanced clients hone their skills. This role will help clients develop skills that will make it easier to access services and resources within the community, meet the needs of their families, and access more lucrative employment opportunities!
COMMITMENT:
- Days and times: flexible based on client and volunteer availability
- Frequency: weekly
- Hours: 1-2 hours per shift
LOCATION: Client home (typically Richmond city or Henrico)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with client to identify English language goals
- Plan lessons and implement lessons
- Recommend additional study materials and homework for client
- Adjust teaching style/materials as needed for client success
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel weekly to client house
- Ability to creatively plan lessons for client
- Ability to adjust teaching style to best suit client
- Ability to adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries, confi dentiality, COVID-19, etc.
