SCOPE OF ROLE: English Language Tutor Volunteers (ELT) work with the Adult Education Specialist to consistently aid a clients in building their English language speaking skills. Volunteers may help students with dialogue  to practice speaking English in natural conversations with feedback given from volunteers to build their fluency and confidence in everyday interactions. This role will help clients develop skills that will make it easier to access services and resources within the community, meet the needs of their families, and access more lucrative employment opportunities!

COMMITMENT: 

  • Days and times: Wednesday, 6:00pm - 7:30pm
  • Frequency: weekly
  • Hours: 1.5 hours per shift

LOCATION: Remote (Zoom)

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work with clients to identify English goals
  • Implement lessons based on provided plans and topics, and interact with clients on Zoom for authentic conversations.
  • Provide feedback for clients to continue improve their pronunciation, fluency, and English communication skills and confidence

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to adjust teaching style to best suit client
  • Ability to use Zoom and digital technology effectively
  • Ability to adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries, confidentiality, COVID-19, etc.
