The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 45 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 29 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Early Employment program supports newly arrived refugees and SIVs in achieving rapid, stabilization employment through an array of services and programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General responsibilities could include, but are not limited to the following:
- Create and update resumes
- Assist clients in applying for jobs
- Prepare clients for interviews
- Complete hiring paper work
- File review
- Prepare and file case notes
- Volunteers/Interns may support clients in navigating employment and adult education, early employment, vocational training and placement, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be available at least 3 hours per volunteer day; ideally 2-3 days per week. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays.
- Volunteers require a commitment of 3-6+ hours/week, 3-4 months minimum; 120 hours minimum.
- Students and recent graduates seeking internships are welcome to apply. Internships require additional commitments (240 hours over 4 months).
- Have experience and knowledge in Microsoft Word and/or Excel.
- Proficient to fluent in one of the following languages: Dari, Pashto, Arabic, or Ukrainian
- This is an in-person opportunity located in Sacramento, CA
