The IRC in Atlanta provides early childhood education and childcare programming for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children while their parents participate in in-person adult education classes. Children experience a safe and nurturing environment while learning the basics for a successful transition to the American public school system. The program promotes developmentally appropriate promising practices around positive behaviors for physical development, language and communication development, and early literacy, and works with parents on how to engage their children in learning back at home.
Responsibilities:
Early Childhood Education and Childcare Assistant volunteers assist IRC instructors in classroom management and in implementing age-appropriate learning activities for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills including communication between instructors and fellow volunteers before/during/and after classes
- An interest in or experience with teaching English as a Second Language
- An interest in or experience with Early Childhood Education and/or childcare
- An interest in or experience with working closely with adverse population of children and adults
- Comfortable working with children of different ages and their parents and with individuals at varied levels of English proficiency
- Must be available in person on Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:30 am -12:30 pm
- Background check required
- Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination
- Must track and log hours volunteered monthly via our online volunteer dashboard
Minimum Commitment:
3 hours per week for mid-morning classes.
