When our families first arrive into the US, they must undergo a cultural orientation, where we invite community partners to teach them their legal rights, what they can and can’t do by law in the US, how to use public transportation, what their EBT, Medicaid and SNAP benefits cards look like.
During this cultural orientation, it can become difficult for the parents to maintain focus on the materials being provided while supervising their children. We ask volunteers to provide in-person support at least twice per month to provide assistance with the orientation and supervision of minors.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time and stay for the duration of the orientation
  • Provide entertainment to children
  • Present on a variety of subjects using the information and materials provided

Requirements

  • Must be patient and comfortable working with refugees and immigrants from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have limited English proficiency
  • Background check required
  • Must track and log hours volunteered monthly via our online volunteer dashboard.
