No running water. Crowded living conditions. Limited access to health care. This is the reality for nearly 1 million displaced people in northwest Syria, where the IRC has adapted our programs to protect people from the spread of COVID-19.
[Randa]: They tell us to wash our hands, take our medication and pay attention to hygiene. There isn’t much available here [in Syria], there are no medications, no soap and no hygiene items. Syrians in the northwest are living in cramped conditions with limited access to aid, making it harder to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
[Nurse Samer]: The IRC’s health center offers first aid services, a clinic, a laboratory, a pharmacy and a mobile clinic.
[Doctor Osama]: It is very important that the IRC continues providing these services to people because they suffer from poor financial conditions.
