David Miliband provides a weekly update on the impact of COVID-19 and the International Rescue Committee's coronavirus response around the world.
The COVID crisis represents a double emergency—an emergency in health care but also a social and economic emergency. Nowhere is that more true than in respect of education. We know that in war-torn countries around the world 130 million children weren't in education when the crisis started. Now, with schools closing, the prospect is of a whole last generation who don't know the value and don't gain the value of an education. Across the world, International Rescue Committee teams are changing our programs so that instead of children coming together to go to school, we go to them. We take education into their homes. We make sure that children don't pay twice over for this crisis. We can only do that with your support. Thank you very much for anything more that you can do.
