Our partnership

Since late 2016, the Emergency Response and Infrastructure & Systems Strengthening grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) has provided transformational support to the International Rescue Committee across key strategic and mission-critical priorities, ultimately helping us reach over 240,000 individuals with services across 20 countries.

These investments have subsequently shaped our approach to Strategy100, a plan that provides a north star for our programs, our research, and our voice as we near 100 years of service in 2033. Such clarity of vision would have been impossible without the support of SNF, and the work we have conducted in partnership over the past five years.

Global Impact

  • Integra—the IRC’s software solution to integrate the flow of business processes and communication across the organization—was conceived and launched thanks to SNF’s commitment to infrastructure investment. With the implementation of Integra, the IRC has seen increased efficiency across the organization, allowing frontline staff to spend more time directly serving clients.
  • Over five years, SNF has helped meet critical operations needs and fund capacity development of 12 IRC teams across 29 unique investments. Have ensured our programs could keep the lights on in some of the world’s most challenge contexts.
  • Beginning in year two, SNF began making dedicated investments to the Emergency and Humanitarian Action Unit (EHAU). Contributions have gone to providing emergency response staff with vital training on industry standards and best practices, and toward creating systems, policies and standards for emergency response throughout the IRC. Through this support, IRC has revamped our Needs Assessment protocols, Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion practices, and our Emergency Classification System.

Emergency Response

  • 49,939 people were assisted with protection services across 8 countries, inclusive of gendered violence protection, training of mental health services professionals, and access to services via online platforms such as CuentaNos.
  • 17,115 people were helped with economic recovery and development needs—primarily direct cash transfers—in 6 countries.
  • 25,844 people were helped with health needs such as medical consultations and PPE and food distributions in 3 countries.
  • 77,758 people were helped with WASH needs—including through the construction of latrines and other WASH structures and ensuring the access to clean water in 6 countries.
  • 7 projects over the past five years focused on working with local partners, enabling exponential growth of possible impact beyond even the IRC’s reach.

Feedback provided to IRC’s MHPSS team on Lesvos

R.M., a 19-year-old client from Afghanistan who now lives in Germany with her parents and siblings:

I owe it to you that I am alive today and can be by my father's side. Thanks to you and your blessing, I was able to achieve all my goals and be happy. During the sessions with my psychologist Stella, I felt that I was talking to a person very close to me with whom I could share everything. She was not an unknown doctor to me. In addition, my social worker, Melina, helped me get the support I needed regarding medical and legal issues from other organizations and eventually all together you helped me to a great extend to be well and to be able to move with my mother and siblings to Germany to meet my father. It is my birthday today and when I woke up one of my wishes was to hear from you. I am so happy it happened. I’ve missed you.

Thank you SNF | Σας ευχαριστούμε Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος
