Imagine being a refugee in a tented settlement during a winter storm. This is the reality for thousands of Syrian refugees in Lebanon. 

This month, the International Rescue Committee's crisis news roundup looks at a tenuous ceasefire in Yemen, election unrest in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the U.S. administration's attempts to criminalize Central American asylum seekers who have the legal right to seek protection in the U.S.

  "We were not eating. That’s why we made the decision [to leave Venezuela]." Julio is one of more than one million Venezuelans who felt they had no choice but to leave everything behind and start a new life in Colombia. Today he works as an ice cream vendor to support his family.

Cibel, Carina and Andrea are among the 3 million people who have left Venezuela as violence and a severe economic crisis grip their country. The three mothers have struggled in neighboring Colombia, but emergency support from the International Rescue Committee is helping them start to build a new life for their families.
