The International Rescue Committee has been working in Ethiopia since 2000, providing essential aid to over 100,000 refugees and more than 500,000 Ethiopians affected by natural disasters. In 2013, the IRC in Ethiopia opened the largest water system for any refugee camp in the world.

Last year, the Governor of Texas declared that the state would no longer accept Syrian refugees, citing security concerns after the horrific attacks in Paris. The state demanded that the International Rescue Committee halt its resettlement programs or face a lawsuit. A federal judge on June 16, 2016 dismissed the lawsuit that would have banned refugee resettlement in Texas.

The GRACE Act, a bill recently introduced in Congress, could help ensure the U.S. does its part to address the world refugee crisis. Nearly 26 million refugees have fled violence and persecution around the world.

According to a recent survey by the International Rescue Committee and SocialSphere, Inc. very few Americans are aware of the near famine affecting 20 million people in Africa and the Middle East. But once they are informed, it immediately rises to a top global concern.
