Chef Noori fled Afghanistan with his family in 2015. Today, with the help of the International Rescue Committee, he is greeting Afghans arriving to the U.S. with meals to make them feel at home.

"If the rescue boats hadn't found us, we all would have drowned," recalls Mohammed Omadi. Mohammed and his family, from Afghanistan, came face-to-face with death when forced to cross the sea to Greece to seek refuge in a safe country. Their cash, passports and luggage disappeared in the waves. Cash relief provides emergency financial assistance for families like the Omadis that have lost everything.

Actress and acitivist Piper Perabo recently visited the Greek island of Lesbos where the International Rescue Committee is providing critical aid for up to 4,000 refugees fleeing from war-torn countries like Syria and Afghanistan.
