For Volunteer Appreciation Month, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City shares the impact of Housing Support Volunteers who ensure a home is ready for newly arriving refugee families.

Tom Greenleigh has been volunteering for the IRC in Salt Lake City office for 8 years. Working to support refugee and immigrant communities is in Tom’s blood: his ancestors worked to rescue and resettle refugees during World War II.

Over 70 community sponsors worked to fulfill wish lists for 110 newly arrived refugee families and individuals this holiday season during our annual holiday gift drive, Light One Candle.

After a difficult process to reunite with her husband in the US and complications from the coronavirus, Leidys passes her citizenship test and becomes a US citizen.
