Women are more likely to live in poorer households globally than men. Countries where this is evident are predominantly fragile or conflict-affected. In order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and ensure no one is left behind, women’s economic empowerment must be prioritized and resourced in crisis contexts.

The IRC's women's economic empowerment programs improve women’s financial wellbeing, so they can support themselves and their families.

In the IRC’s new women’s economic empowerment program, low-income immigrant women learn to manage their families’ resources and navigate the American financial system.

To better assess and respond to the unique needs of refugee women, the International Rescue Committee, with grant support from BlackRock, embarked on a two-year research and implementation program in Niger, Kenya and Germany.

The IRC assists refugees and SIVs in securing employment upon arrival in the U.S., in addition to supporting them as they advance their careers and move towards achieving financial goals. Through job training, resume workshops, mock interviews, vocational scholarships, Vocational English as Second Language (VESL) classes, financial education, and other services, we offer refugees the tools they need to succeed in meeting their short and long-term professional and financial goals.

Five years after the defeat of the ISIS group, millions of Iraqis lack livelihood opportunities, proper shelter, or access to basic services. Women like Sarah have demonstrated great courage in the face of conflict and displacement to provide for their families.
