Forty refugee girls participated in a day of activities for International Day of the Girl hosted by the International Rescue Committee and Girl Scouts – Arizona Cactus-Pine Council.

The MHM in Emergencies project is a collaboration between Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and the International Rescue Committee, and supported by Research for Health in Humanitarian Crises. The aim of this project is to expand the evidence and guidance on MHM during emergencies. Along with adding to the evidence base, the project has developed an MHM in emergencies toolkit in partnership with the humanitarian response community.

The IRC recognizes that with support and investment, adolescent girls can transform their lives and their communities. Working with girls instead of on behalf of girls, the IRC’s programs are driven and led by girls in a way that empowers them long into the future.

Private Violence, Public Concern, examines the nature and drivers of intimate partner violence in three refugee camps across three continents. The research shows that intimate partner violence in humanitarian settings is driven by a complex set of factors that include pre-existing gender inequalities, which is exacerbated by rapidly changing gender roles.
