Building climate resilience in northeast Nigeria

A man-made hunger crisis in Nigeria
The war against Boko Haram, the world's deadliest terror group, has created massive displacement and famine-like conditions for 14.8 million people in northeastern Nigeria. Some 5.1 million people don't have access to sufficient food, and 2.8 million children are severely malnourished. If nothing changes, more than 200 children will die each day. This crisis is man-made, but the solutions are too.

Welcoming baby Bello
New parents Hussaini and Ibrahim* have welcomed their first son, Bello, to their family with help from IRC midwife Murna. Born in Gwoza, northeast Nigeria, baby Bello is starting life in a community that has been deeply affected by the ongoing conflict. With support from the European Union, the IRC provides families with access to reproductive health clinics where IRC midwives assist mothers through pregnancy, birth and beyond.
