Collaborating for climate-solutions at COP28: How partnerships are vital in unlocking solutions for the hardest hit

The second class of POWER (Providing Opportunities for Women's Economic Resilience) professional community interpreters graduated on March 30th, 2017.

IRC’s New Roots program focuses on food access and the nutritional needs of families upon arrival in the United States.

Earlier this month, was the first time in a few years that New Roots representatives from five IRC offices were able to convene, in person, in Arizona for a few days. In the Spring of 2020, the IRC was the subgrantee of a grant awarded by the Institute for Social and Economic Development (ISED). This grant funded a three year project called, Beginning Farmer Rancher Development Program (BFRD).

This summer, the New Roots department selected three high school students from refugee families to be a part of the recently created Youth Food Justice Internship.

Refugees and new American farmers participating in New Roots work hard through the summer growing season to support their families and provide fresh produce at an affordable rate for the communities they live in.

This year, the IRC in New York’s New Roots Community Gardens (NRCG) in Queens is celebrating its second year since its grand opening during the pandemic in 2021. The garden has come a long way, providing a safe space for members to make new friends, harvest veggies/herbs, and connect with the land.
