IRC comment opposing proposed USCIS fee schedule changes

The International Rescue Committee submitted a comment in response to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) proposed changes to the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) fee schedule, which was published in the Federal Register on November 14, 2019 and supplemented on December 9, 2019.  As outlined in this document, the IRC strongly opposes the proposed changes to the fee schedule. These proposed changes would disproportionately harm low-income immigrants by creating financial barriers to the progress of an immigrant’s integration in the U.S., delaying or even preventing status that is critical to safety, security and protection.
