IRC comment opposing proposed expansion of asylum bars

The International Rescue Committee submitted a comment to express strong opposition to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) and Department of Justice’s (DOJ) proposal to greatly expand bars to asylum eligibility on the basis of involvement in the criminal legal system. These changes would constitute an unnecessary and punitive overhaul of the asylum protections enshrined in U.S. and international law.
