The Protection and Rule of Law (PROL) work in Iraq has achieved two major milestones. First, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) played an essential role in passing the long-pending Iraqi Legal Aid Law, which had been stalled for more than a decade. This was done in collaboration with the The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, in the first ever national conference on Legal Aid in Baghdad. Second, the IRC engaged with the Parliamentary Development Institute (PDI) and co-conducted the Dialogue Forum to advocate for and adopt the "Right of Access to Information" law. This legislation grants Iraqis the freedom of information in accordance with international human rights standards. The PROL team continues to implement protection, legal, advocacy and reforms interventions for conflict affected Iraqis through the support of our donors.
