With support from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the IRC has launched the Immigrant Youth and Young Adult (YYA) Career and Education Technical Assistance Project to enhance the capacity of 12 organizations serving disconnected YYAs—young people between 16 and 28 from diverse immigrant backgrounds. Immigrants now make up nearly 15% of the U.S. population, but despite high labor force participation, immigrant workers face challenges such as lower median earnings, poverty, and limited career advancement opportunities. Young immigrant women, especially mothers, are disproportionately impacted. This learning brief aims to inform service providers about the experiences of immigrant YYAs, increase understanding of their unique challenges, and offer best practices for building culturally and linguistically accessible programs to support their education and career development.
