The Ecuador Conflict Sensitivity Analysis highlights the growing impact of violence on the protection of vulnerable populations and the need for strategic humanitarian interventions. Developed by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) with the support of local partners, this study provides a detailed assessment of the current context and offers key recommendations for strengthening response and assistance.

Some key points of the analysis include:

  • Escalating violence and social crisis: Ecuador has experienced a significant deterioration in security, with an increase in homicides, child and adolescent recruitment, and forced displacement.
  • Risk factors and social connectors: Impacts on social cohesion, livelihoods, education and protection were identified, with a growing distrust of institutions and a weakening of the community fabric.
  • Coping mechanisms: Despite the adverse context, communities have developed resilience strategies, including community organization, promotion of protective spaces and strengthening of support networks.
  • Intervention proposals: The study highlights the need to strengthen the social fabric, improve institutional capacity, generate protective factors for children and enhance the action of civil society organizations in high-risk contexts.

This study not only seeks to document the situation, but also to generate concrete recommendations that contribute to the strengthening of the humanitarian response system in Ecuador. The IRC is open to discuss these findings and explore collaboration spaces for the implementation of strategies to strengthen community resilience and the protection of the most affected populations.
