The IRC’s Gifts In-Kind Program enables our private sector partners to maximize their giving through non-financial opportunities that help recently resettled refugees in the U.S. rebuild their lives.

What are Gifts In-Kind?

Gifts In-Kind are non-cash donations that may take the form of tangible (e.g. computers, mattresses, or clothing) or non-tangible goods and services (e.g. ride share credits, pro bono services, warehousing space). In-kind contributions help offset the high costs that refugee client families face during initial resettlement. For example, a donation of a mattress can help save a client’s limited federal resettlement funds—$1,225 per newly arrived refugee—for other critical needs such as rent, food, or healthcare.

High Priority Donations

These items are the top requested items by our resettlement offices for our newly arrived clients.  All donations must meet an expressed need of our clients, but our team may consider items not on this list on a case-by-case basis.

Please find the latest list of most urgent donations needed on this document.

How to Help

If you are interested in partnering with the IRC to donate items or services, please fill out our In-Kind Donation Survey and a member of our team will reach out to you.

While our office generally spends down a family’s resettlement budget by the time we pay the security deposit and the first month rent, we were able to pay an entire second month of rent for this family, most of which came from the money we saved from the mattress donation. This gave the family an extra month to try settle into their new community, try to get jobs, and focus on meeting their other urgent needs.

FAQs

Please fill our short survey if you'd like to become an IRC Gift In-Kind partner

How does it work?

If you have a good or service that you would like to donate, please fill out our In-Kind Donation Survey. The Gifts In-Kind team will then screen the offer and determine if it is a good fit for our resettlement programs. If deemed appropriate, the team will then reach out to you to discuss logistic details. Once all details are confirmed, then the GIK team will share shipping address and contact information.

What are your minimum requirements?

Unless otherwise specified, donations must be new and ready to use, i.e.set up, assembled, and ready for client use. Minimum quantities depend on the item and receiving office.

Due to limited resources, we request that all partners:

  • Arrange and cover the costs of shipping and any customs for their product to our office locations.
  • Share tracking information prior to delivery.
  • Provide an invoice with the description, quantity, and value of their donation.
Can you provide a tax acknowledgement letter for my donation?

Yes, once the donation is received, our team will send you an electronic acknowledgement.

Can we partner on communications and storytelling around my donation?

Our teams have limited capacity, and we are unable to accommodate every request we receive for communications. However, please indicate this request in your donation survey response, and our team will reach out.
