Welcome to the IRC.
Thank you so much for your interest in the IRC. We were founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933 and have been responding to the world’s worst humanitarian crises since then. With our supporters by our side, we help refugees and displaced people to survive, recover and regain control over their futures in the toughest places on Earth.
Our teams provide protection and health care, help children recover from trauma and learn, empower individuals and strengthen communities—always with a focus on the unique needs of women and girls. Our work across 40 countries and more than 20 U.S. cities is made possible with the help of supporters like you.
In becoming a member of the IRC community of supporters, you can expect:
- A welcome packet in the mail that explains the IRC’s work and the impact that your donation will have on our programs around the world.
- Regular communications and updates on how your monthly support is helping people in crisis-affected countries like Yemen, Syria and Somalia.
What is face-to-face fundraising?
Face-to-face fundraising is an outreach method that allows us to connect directly with people like you and share important issues facing families caught in the world’s worst humanitarian crises. You may encounter an IRC fundraiser on a busy street, at the mall, or even at your front door.
Our fundraisers may talk to you about what refugees and displaced people are up against in the places where we work and how the IRC is responding, thanks to the support of our dedicated donors. They may discuss issues such as the hunger crisis in Yemen and how the IRC is one of the largest health care providers in the country, dedicating much of our efforts to treating children for malnutrition. Or they may share with you information on our work helping resettled refugees to build vibrant, safe lives in the United States.
Once you learn more about us and choose to make a gift, you can rest assured that our face-to-face fundraising teams will use secure software to set up your recurring donation.
Our process is Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliant and all of our donors' information is uploaded to a secure server to ensure their privacy is protected and data is secure.
How can I identify a fundraiser from the IRC?
All IRC fundraisers are equipped with the following:
- An IRC yellow vest and other IRC-branded clothing
- An IRC ID card on a yellow lanyard
- An iPad
What steps do IRC fundraisers take to mitigate the spread of COVID-19?
The IRC is committed to taking all possible steps to ensure that everyone involved in face-to-face fundraising is protected and safe. IRC fundraisers follow the latest CDC guidelines regarding mask wearing, sanitizing, handwashing, and general best practices.
Who do I contact if I have a question or concern regarding my canvassing experience?

How does the IRC ensure my information is kept safe and secure?
We take every precaution to ensure your private information stays just that—private. All of our systems, including the tablet used to secure your personal and billing information, use the highest form of security. IRC tablets link directly into our database so your personal financial details are managed by IRC, not by fundraisers themselves.
