Together, we help girls like Zahra in Afghanistan go to school and chase dreams of becoming engineers and doctors. We deliver malnutrition treatment in the most remote places so babies like Fatima in Chad can have the futures they deserve. And we help communities adapt to the changing climate so Syrian farmers like Anwar can grow crops to feed their families in any climate.

The workshop will include an action-packed, moderated discussion and a refugee champion guide. Participants can expect to acquire new knowledge and resources on how to welcome displaced people into their community.

Gather a group to fold origami peace cranes and learn about this ancient Japanese tradition while discussing the connection between war and its effect on displacing communities. Then IRC’s resources will be used to learn how we turn hope into action and how you can join us. Complete the exercise by displaying your peace cranes in a visible location in your office to spread beauty and awareness about the global refugee crisis, and ways everyone at your company can support displaced people.

For over 90 years, the International Rescue Committee has worked to support people and families who are fleeing war and persecution to seek safety. As a new presidential administration and new Congressional session begin, the IRC invites you to pledge your support for refugees and asylum seekers. Pledge signers will learn more about the rights of refugees and asylum seekers, current and proposed changes to U.S. policies and opportunities to join IRC’s advocacy efforts.

In places where landscapes have been reshaped by droughts and floods, streets and buildings bear the scars of war, and people are fleeing home for the sake of their children, IRC staff and clients defy the odds every single day.How do your employees defy the odds? Launch an interactive, awareness-building, storytelling campaign that invites employees to learn about IRC staff and clients who’ve defied the odds. Then ask your staff to nominate colleagues who have also defied the odds in their own way. Upon nominated employees’ approval, display the inspiring stories on your intranet or in your office along with a fundraising campaign for the IRC.

Small groups can volunteer to help grow nutritious food at their local New Roots farm in Seattle, Oakland, Sacramento, San Diego, Dallas, Phoenix, Tucson, NYC, Charlottesville, Atlanta, Denver and Salt Lake City. These agricultural sites allow community members to grow their own food, reconnect with their cultural heritage and gain transferable skills through our farm-based job readiness programs. Volunteer days often consist of weeding, planting, mulching and/or clean-up. (Date availability may vary, especially during extreme weather months).
