The IRC in NY & NJ enjoys working with over 800 volunteers each year who provide critical day to day support for clients and staff throughout the year. IRC in New York's volunteers go the extra mile every winter by organizing the IRC in NY's annual Client Winter Party. This well-attended event hosts IRC clients, staff, GenR volunteers, and community members in a festive evening of good food, gift giving, and activities.
St. George's Episcopal Church generously provided a gathering space for the event, and GenR, the IRC's volunteer engagement group for young professionals, hosted activities including a photo booth, mug decorating, and facepainting. IRC volunteers also collected gifts for youth clients, which were a big hit for young and old as children unwrapped their presents.
Everyone enjoyed very full plates with kindly donated food from Cava, Chipotle, Eat Off Beat, Whole Foods, Food Trends and Faruqi & Faruqi. Clients happily took home delicious leftovers, and IRC staff were so happy to enjoy a meal with clients and volunteers alike.
The IRC in NY is very grateful to the strong community of volunteers that empower this office to grow in service every year. The commitment of New Yorkers in serving refugees, asylees, reunified families and children is exceptional and heartening for IRC clients and staff.
Thank you to our volunteer leaders, especially Lisa Scholtes, for crafting a wonderful event for all involved. Lisa's years of dedication to the IRC in NY are remarkable and much admired within the office, so thank you, Lisa. And a heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers who brighten and strengthen IRC programs throughout the year. We are looking foward to working with you all and our new volunteers in 2019!
