We are so incredibly grateful and humbled that the Dallas community came forward to support our refugee families during our annual Adopt-A-Family program this past holiday season. We were able to adopt out 77 of our refugee families which resulted in a total of 344 individuals. How incredible! We are also pleased to announce that the total value of gifts given to our families is around $45,000, making it the biggest Adopt-A-Family program in our office’s history! We could not be happier for our refugee families!
We could not have done this without the support of our wonderful Dallas community. Among the many individual families who participated in last year’s program, we would also like to thank the following groups that participated:
Northridge Presbyterian Church Youth Group
Yo Moms
Intel
Temple Shalom Sisterhood
Girl Scouts
Facebook
Storyline Community Church
Chair Care Patio
IELI faculty at UNT in Denton
The Liberated Montessori House
University of North Texas Study Abroad Office (UNT SAO)
Many LDS wards
A GenR Dallas member, Ashley Cook, who participated in delivering some of the gifts to our refugee families had the following to say about her experience:
Today, I had the opportunity to help out with the Dallas IRC's Adopt-a-Family program. I absolutely loved the couple of hours that I served! I had the privilege of a true end-to-end experience -- from meeting donors and loading/unloading gifts to hearing the squeals of delight from the children of refugee families as they unwrapped their presents. For me, today showcased what this season is about -- generosity, community, and love. Thank you, IRC in Dallas and all those who helped make today happen!
